The Multicultural Discussion forum is being initiated because while there are many coming
out resources available in a North American context, not much is available for those from
other regions. This group will serve to address issues such as family pressures, family
honor, religious doctrines, internalized shame owing to cultural biases, and a whole
array of other issues which may not be dealt by conventional LGBT resources.

Eventually material will be drawn from the group for the anti-homophobia workshops that
will be conducted through the Pride Centre of Edmonton. A dialogue will hopefully be
initiated through these workshops with the objective to create a safer environment for
the many Canadian LGBT from multicultural origins who continue to live in immense fear
while their Canadian counterparts are making strides in LGBT rights.
