We'd like to welcome Al Ling to the organizing group!

We are going to try to continue to build on last year, so here is what is planned:

Format - We will attempt to organize set teams again this year. But for the first three weeks (October 11, 18 and 25 th) we will be playing drop-in to make sure paid membership is high enough to assure successful operation of the teams. You will be asked to register and pay by the end of the third week (Oct. 25 – fees are listed below) to be eligible for a team. Players will also be asked to rate themselves into 3 skills categories that will be provided on the opening week, and at the end of that third night, your name will be placed into three draw pools representing each skills ranking. From those pools the identified Captains will draw names so that player skills will be evenly distributed between the teams. We will end up with either four or five teams, depending on the numbers of people who pay the registration fee by October 25 th. If players know they will not be able to play regularly, they will be asked to mention this right away and they will be put on up a sub-list instead of on a regular team, and they will substitute in on the set teams during regular play. In other words, if you are not willing to commit to coming Thursday as regularly as possible, you may not get to play a great deal when you do show up. Teams will not work if you don't commit, so we want people to be serious about playing this year. Teams will be set, we hope, with 7 players, so if you cannot make it to play on any particular week, this may not be a problem, but you MUST inform your captain ahead of time. We would also request that you inform your captain if you are going to arrive late. Team Captains will discuss attendance with players who consistently miss regular play and reserve the right to remove someone from regular play if they are consistently missing, and replace that person with a regularly attending person from the sub list.

We will review the status of the set teams in January and review player and captain feedback. These changes have been adopted as the volleyball group has grown in size and skill level and this is part of adapting to those factors. We hope that players view these changes as positive and continue to support and participate in Free to be Volleyball as we continue to expand and mature.

To ensure that the Thursday night is successful for the majority of players we ask that players self evaluate their skill level and consider whether they should be playing on the intermediate Thursday nights or recreational Wednesday nights. While the Thursday night group welcomes all players it is important to note that there is an expectation for players to have an intermediate level of skills and knowledge or be in the process of attaining that level. We would like to remind players that the Wednesday night group provides an excellent opportunity for individuals with developing skills to spend time improving their level of play and encourage developing players to consider this option .

Fees – fees will be $50 per session (Oct-Dec, Jan-May), $20 per session for students and under employed. . Subs will pay $8 per evening. In order to play on a team, players will need to pay by the October 25 th deadline. Alex will collect fees, with Al's assistance.

Coaching – it was decided to keep coaching as a separate activity this year from Thursday night. Individual teams, or groups of players who may be interested in coaching can do this through another venue. We are presently exploring potential locations and will notify all players when the venue has been confirmed.

Both groups play indoors at the Amiskiwacy Academy from 8-10pm.
101 Airport Road.

Team Edmonton Bootcamp

This activity combines circuit training, weight training, stretching, ball
sculpting, cardio and obstacle training.

Bootcamp runs Monday nights from 7:00 - 8:00pm

Bootcamp is set to challenge those individuals who are looking to increase their level of fitness.

We are now looking at hosting the bootcamp indoors at new locations.
